The consumption of alcohol is a central part of Australian culture with a few beers at the pub being an important social lubricant and method of relaxation. This is especially the case in rural communities where other entertainment options are few and far between. Even sporting clubs and associations have encouraged the celebration of victories and losses, with an alcohol fuelled knees up at the local club. The KAAP is a program aimed at raising the issue of binge drinking in the local community. Drinking at risky levels has a profound impact on the community and can lead to accidents, injuries, deaths and mental health issues as well as having long term implications related to local productivity, reputation and community spirit. Funded by The Department of Health and Aging this project is hoped to create a greater awareness of these issues and better outcomes for young people aged 12- 24 years old and give them the tools to live healthy and happy lives. As part of KAAP a number of activities will be taking place including events and education sessions and courses that will offer information and strategies to deal with harmful consumption behaviours and hopefully have an impact on changing the social acceptance of public drunkenness. EVERYONE is invited to get involved and share their ideas and opinions on the matter and to do so you can Contact Us or visit the KAAP Blog. It is hoped that this project will decrease hospitalisations, road accidents, petty crime and most importantly offer alternative entertainment in a safe and friendly environment for all! Special thanks to
